Taste of Kaimuki cancellation

Dear Kaimuki Middle School Ohana,

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread in the US, many educational institutions are cancelling extracurricular activities to prevent the spread of the virus. As of this letter, Hawaii has confirmed two cases of the COVID-19 infection on Oahu and KMS PTO is taking precautionary health measures to protect our Ohana and the community, by cancelling the Taste of Kaimuki Middle School event scheduled for Friday, March 27.  Our decision to cancel this event was made after careful evaluation of the current COVID-19 situation and actions that would need to be in place to reduce the risk of transmission.  Based on these considerations, we recognized that we would not be able to provide an event that guaranteed the safety of our Ohana, community members and food vendors, entertainers and volunteers.

We would like to send a big MAHALO to the KMS families and staff who were so generous and enthusiastic about answering the call to help with donations of ideas, time, beverages, equipment, supplies and funds to make this event a success.  As we continue to monitor the situation, please know that we are continuously brainstorming ways to make up for this event by providing other opportunities to celebrate the great things about KMS. With regards to the drinks that were donated, we would like to let you know they will be used to benefit the students at KMS.  However, if you would prefer that we return your donation, please contact us at kmspto.org/contact-us, to make arrangements to  pick-up from the school. To those who have generously loaned us your coolers, please stop by the front office between 7:30AM – 4:00PM during spring break to pick up your item.

In celebration of KMS’s 80th anniversary, we created a commemorative shirt and hoodie that will be available to the KMS Ohana and community.  You may purchase these items at the KMS PTO Store, kmspto.org/store.  First distribution of shirts and hoodies is expected on Friday, March 27.  We are happy to let you know that the shirts and hoodies have been approved to wear to school on any day of the week, but only have limited quantities, so order yours today!  The profits from the sales of the shirts and hoodies will be used to support programs and events at KMS.

We thank you for your support and understanding.  Please feel free to contact us via email at kmspto.org/contact-us, if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions.

Be safe and stay well!

Mahalo for your time and support,

KMS PTO Board

Thank you for subscribing to the site. We will have more exciting updates in the future, but as for now, we’d like to point out that the latest approved September minutes have been posted.

We have our first official fundraiser coming up. There will be a limited supply (~200 tickets) of Outback Steakhouse dinners for sale. Please be on the lookout for a flyer within the next few weeks. We will also post the flyer on this site.

Our next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7th.

Thank you!

Aloha from the KMS PTO!

Hi KMS Families!

Welcome to the start of another great school year! We are pleased to announce that the Kaimuki Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (KMS PTO) has once again been revived after being dormant for many years! The school administration and a group of parents met at the end of last school year and decided it would be in the best interest of the school to form the PTO. So here we are!

The purpose of the KMS PTO is:

  1. To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and community;
  2. To provide financial assistance where needs are identified within the school;
  3. To support the mission and vision of the school and school district, and;
  4. To encourage parents to assist with various school activities, functions, and services.

We look forward to planning school events that not only will raise money to help the school, but to foster new friendships between parents, students, and staff!

Communications will be mainly through this site and flyers will go home every so often. If you’d like to stay informed, please submit your email address in the “Subscribe to KMS PTO Site” section to your right and confirm the email that arrives in your inbox.
